Chabad of Briarwood

Rabbi Dovi Steinmetz was raised in Brooklyn, NY. His studies took him from Morristown, NJ to Los Angeles, California and finally back to Brooklyn, NY. There, in the study hall of “770”, the central headquarters of the worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch Chassidic movement; he pursued and received his rabbinic ordination. Once married, Rabbi Steinmetz taught at a Yeshivah in Queens and directed an overnight summer camp for Jewish boys of diverse backgrounds. Rabbi Dovi currently serves as principal of Chanoch Lenaar, a Yeshiva High School in Brooklyn, NY. He is also an instructor of Chassidic philosophy and mystical Judaism and particularly loves the intricacies of the Talmud.

Rabbi Dovi’s kind and sincere approach in the care and concern of each individual, particularly youth, has enabled him to impact the lives of all those he encounters in a meaningful way. His strong educational background and abundant experience in community outreach coupled with his warm and pleasant demeanor help foster wonderful relationships and strengthen Jewish pride in the people he connects with.

Chani was born in Jerusalem and then raised in Montreal, Canada. She spent her elementary and high school years at Beth Rivkah Academy where all the General Studies were taught in French. In fact, she is fluent in four languages, English, French, Hebrew and Yiddish. Upon completing high school, Chani went on to pursue a degree in Special Education in Kfar Chabad, Israel. She dedicated one semester of her learning to extended fieldwork and travelled to Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine where she coordinated Jewish programs for all ages ranging from preschoolers to college students. Chani’s marriage to Rabbi Dovi brought her to the most populous of New York City's five boroughs, Brooklyn. There, she taught at Chush, a school for children with special needs and finally found her niche working at the Yeshivah of Flatbush Elementary School as a resource room educator.

Chani’s education and experience for over a decade with individuals with special needs has rendered her more intuitive as to the emotional needs of those around her. She would like to be able to use her capabilities to impact the lives of the individuals and families she meets; in a way that only a woman could. Chani intends to use her teaching skills, as well as her culinary abilities, to impart a deep sense of Jewish pride and appreciation in the hearts of those who enter her home, and in those that participate in the programs that she and her husband organize for the benefit of the Briarwood Jewish community.
