Tannenbaum Chabad House

Chabad of Evanston known as the Tannenbaum Chabad House is the epicenter for Jewish life in Evanston, IL. Our doors officially opened in 1985 as the first Chabad center in IL. we are a warm embracing and invited place which services the community in a variety of different ways. We offer activities and programs for adults, Northwestern University students, and our youth. Shabbat and Holiday services, international speakers, classes, Holiday celebrations, concerts, and excursions are just a few of our events. Our doors are open to all regardless of age, background, affiliation, or level of observance.

Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein hails from Chicago, birthed and bred in its vibrant culture and community. Notably, he was directed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe himself to move to Evanston in 1985. This move marked a pivotal point in Klein's career and personal life. He isn't your average religious leader - Dov Hillel Klein is an unusually dynamic, interesting, and multifaceted person, recognized by many as a “Chassidic Renaissance Man”.

Since his relocation to Evanston in 1985, Klein has held the position of Executive Director of Chabad of Evanston. This role allowed him to serve not only the city of Evanston but also the Northwestern University community. He stands as a pioneer in the formation of Chabad on Campus, an initiative that took flight when he extended his ministry to the students at Northwestern University.

Beyond his executive duties, Klein is also a highly sought-after speaker. He has lectured throughout the world, sharing his wisdom and insights, and his local courses are perennially full. Aside from his work within the religious and educational spheres, Rabbi Klein served in a critical role as a chaplain and first responder for the Evanston Police Department. His duties ranged from crisis intervention to suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress syndrome assistance, hostage negotiations, burnout management, and death notification.
