Welcome to Clifton Park Chabad Jewish Center! Here at Chabad, you will find a wide array of programming designed to enhance Jewish life in southern Saratoga County. We strive to create an environment where every person is welcome, every individual Mitzvah is cherished, and where Judaism is an accessible reality to all Jews regardless of background, affiliation or age!
Through Shabbat Dinners, Holiday events, Jewish Womens circle, Chabad Hebrew school and everything in between, we are cultivating a community together. We look forward to meeting you in person at a Shabbat dinner, Torah class or a casual coffee date.
Today, Chana happened to be digging in our backyard, transplanting some of the little plants we had started from seeds at the beginning of the summer. She didn’t find any buried treasure. But this week, someone actually did. A homeowner in Denmark was digging in his backyard to make room for a new patio when his garden fork struck something metallic. Beneath the ground, he discovered an enormous Viking treasure — silver bars, bracelets, coins, and jewelry that had been buried there for more than a thousand years. The treasure had been there all along. He simply had to dig. This week’s Torah portion tells us: “Ki karov eilecha hadavar me’od” — “The matter is very close to you.” We sometimes think that becoming more connected to Judaism requires becoming someone different. More religious. More knowledgeable. More spiritual. The Torah tells us otherwise. Nachmanides explains that these words refer to teshuvah. Teshuvah is usually translated as repentance, but it really means return. We are not creating something new. We are uncovering something that was there all along. The Rebbe once explained that if you dig in the earth, you first encounter dirt and mud. But if you keep digging, eventually you may discover precious minerals and diamonds. The same is true of us. Beneath the distractions, mistakes, disappointments and habits is something incredibly precious: a Jewish soul that never loses its connection to G-d. As Rosh Hashanah approaches, many of us will hear the shofar and feel something stir inside. Maybe a thought will suddenly come: I want to come to shul more often. I want to light Shabbat candles. Put on tefillin. Learn more Torah. Bring another mitzvah into my life. Don’t brush that feeling aside. Start digging. Because sometimes the treasure we have been searching for isn’t far away at all. It has been within us all along. The last Shabbat of the year - make it meaningful and Mitzvah-ful!! Shabbat Shalom, and Shana Tova Umetuka — a good and sweet year!
